”HATO SABURE” is a traditional Japanese butter cookie, made by Toshimaya, well-known as a specialty from Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture. This treat is shaped like a dove, which symbolizes peace. It has a crisp texture and rich buttery flavor, making it a popular souvenir from Kamakura.
It is said that “HATO SABURE” was created over 120 years ago. I imagined that people back then must have been surprised by how delicious it was, but in reality, butter was an unfamiliar flavor to them at the time, and it wasn’t well received. Over time, however, the recipe was improved, evolving into the flavor we enjoy today.
