JAGARIKO

JAGARIKO snacks

JAGARIKO” is a popular snack in Japan. It is a stick-shaped patato snack with a crispy texture. The outside is crunchy, while the inside is slightly soft, offering a unique eating experience. Made primarily from potatoes, “JAGARIKO” comes in a variety of flavors, such as salad, cheese, and buttered potato. Its packaging in a cup makes it convenient to carry around, which adds to its popularity. It’s incredibly delicious, and once you start eating, you just can’t stop!

Inside the package

Today, I’d like to introduce my favorite flavor of “JAGARIKO”: tarako butter.

Tarako refers to the salted roe of pollock ( a type of fish). The roe consists of tiny eggs encased in a sac, typically pink or reddish in color. Tarako can be eaten as is, used as a topping for rice, or incorporated into dishes like pasta or onigiri (rice balls). Tarako pairs exceptionally well with butter. This “JAGARIKO” tarako butter flavor perfectly captures that combination.

The sticks are now about 6 cm long, but they used to be longer in the past. They’ve been affected by the times. However, they’re so delicious that even though they’re shorter, I can’t stop buying them.

I bought it in pharmacy near my house. I got it for 128 yen at there. (The price is as of September 2024) You can find it at any supermarkets, and convenience stores, too. In Japan, snacks are often cheaper at farmacy than at supermarkets or convenience stores.

You can get “JAGARIKO” from here!
